"Let Music Fill My World" is a song that was originally created by John Ondrasik and eight students from Farragut Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois. Passionately expressing why music matters in their lives, the students wrote all of the verses in the song themselves. The students then had the opportunity to professionally record their song. Music is a universal language, and everyone has a story. We want to hear how music has impacted YOUR life. Was there a music teacher that inspired you? Was there an experience where music changed your life? Have you seen music bring people together? Create a video and tell us the miracles that music has created in your life!
Whether you're submitting as an individual, duo, or group, OR on behalf of a school... we want you to be creative and show off your skills! You can sing, dance, rap, beatbox, play an instrument, etc. This is for YOU to use the talents that you have to help us make some noise. Make your rendition as little as 30 seconds, or, do as much of the song as you would like! We mean it when we say this part is for YOU to be creative. Check out the lyrics below!

The voting process will begin shortly after the Music Matters Challenge closes at 11:59pm EST on May 31, 2024. The judging panel will select the Top 10 individual submissions and the Top 10 school submissions. Then, it's YOUR turn to vote on the winner!
If you are entering the Music Matters Challenge on behalf of a school, welcome! A few details to share to set you up for success. First, each school is allowed only ONE submission. A school faculty member must serve as the group representative and submit on behalf of the school. Remember, the winning prize is a grant issued to the school to further music education for students, rather than an individual cash prize. If selected, our team will contact the faculty member to proceed with grant issuance and the special appearance on national television to perform your rendition of Let Music Fill My World.
If you are entering the Music Matters Challenge as an individual, how exciting! We cannot wait to see your submission. Here is what you need to know … for the individual prize, you may submit as a sole individual, a duo, or a group. You must be 13 years of age or older when you submit, and/or have your legal guardian submit on your behalf. If selected, the individual submitting the video will be the sole individual eligible for receipt of the cash prize, and bear the responsibility for divvying up as appropriate amongst a multi-member group (if applicable). Our team will communicate with the winner(s) to collaborate on the opportunity to participate in selecting a music teacher for an under-resourced school.
We will begin the voting process for the Top 10 Individual submissions and the Top 10 School submissions shortly after the Challenge ends. When ready, Let Music Fill My World will post the Top 10 videos to our social media pages to allow the public to start voting on their favorite renditions. Please remember to input your social media handles when submitting your video during the Challenge, as this will allow our team to tag you in the appropriate post(s) during the voting process. We will notify you via email if your submission makes it into the Top 10 in either category.

Share your personal connection to music, why you believe it matters in young people’s lives, and a story about a person that inspired you through music. Shoot the video in a quiet space, somewhere you feel comfortable to share your talent. And have fun!!
